Cysts may grow for a long time without giving any signs and may lead to resorption of the jawbone. They are cleared surgically; where deemed necessary, the area is supported with a root-end resection or the application of a graft. Some cysts are detected incidentally on a routine radiograph, which is why regular check-ups are important. The removed tissue is sent for pathological examination where deemed necessary, and healing is followed with radiological checks.
