Gum diseases often progress silently and may lead to tooth loss if left untreated. Scaling, subgingival curettage and, where deemed necessary, surgical approaches are applied. Bleeding, sensitivity and bad breath are generally the first findings. Since gum health may be related to conditions such as diabetes, tobacco use and pregnancy, maintenance check-ups are planned at certain intervals after treatment.
